The line, “guns don’t kill people, it’s people killing people” is bullshit

We’ve all heard the lines, “It’s not a gun issue, it’s a mental health issue”, “It’s different here. What they do in other countries won’t work”, “It’s a moral decay issue, not a gun issue”.

All of these arguments and additional ones you see along the same line are all about inflating the issue so large that literally nothing can be done. Basically it’s the same as, “We can’t address this issue because we would need to fix the whole of society first.”

“Their criminals, they’ll get a gun anyway”

Whenever they point this out, they don’t address the reality that only 10–15% of guns are gotten illegally, while the rest are purchased from licensed sources, or from other people who legally purchased their gun. Guns don’t manifest out of nowhere for criminals, and even the individuals, that have their guns stolen, get theirs legally.

Those making these arguments are paralyzing the issue, and pushing the idea that these tragedies are simply the price of freedom, when they aren’t, and under no circumstances should be considered ‘acceptable losses’.

“We need armed guards at our schools. The only way to stop a guy with a gun is another one with a gun”

Most schools have resource officers on campus and we’ve seen time and time again. It does not work. Over and over the good guy with a gun argument is proven bullshit. When an 18 year old with no drivers license can purchase 2 high powered rifles with endless magazines, body armor, etc. Without any psych evaluation or a government record you have to conclude that America’s gun problem is the easy accessibility of guns.

It’s all talking points and distractions.

It doesn’t matter what the solution ends up being. The first battle is, to get those in power to acknowledge that this is a problem that needs to be addressed.

America has a gun problem, and to me and those that share my opinion, it’s baffling that over half of those in this country can’t see it.
